Interactive Brokers Expands AI Integration to Claude, Cursor, and Perplexity

Connector surface: one URL, many clients

Clients can now link accounts from Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity, and Windsurf, without routing through the previously required certified marketplaces. The protocol has not changed since launch; the restriction on which clients could call it has.

Execution model: human-approved tier

The workflow sits in the middle band of FM Intelligence's three-tier classification.

  • Read-only. AI queries portfolio state, returns text.
  • Human-approved (IBKR). AI drafts instructions. Trader reviews and submits manually on an IBKR platform.
  • Autonomous. AI places orders directly.

Spotware (cTrader, May) and ThinkMarkets (ChelseaAI, June) operate at the autonomous tier. FundedNext ships read-only this month. IBKR stops at the drafted instruction. No order path from the connector to the market exists in this release.

Setup steps

1. Locate the IBKR MCP connector URL.

2. Paste into the target tool's custom server settings (Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity, Windsurf, others).

3. Authenticate through the IBKR login screen for a single account.

4. Issue natural-language queries against the linked account.

Coverage and limits

  • Instruments. All asset classes supported by prior integrations, including options and futures added in late June.
  • Platforms. Client Portal, IBKR Desktop, IBKR Mobile, IBKR GlobalTrader, Trader Workstation.
  • Permissions. Client controls which data the connected tool may access. Per-query authentication is required.
  • Use cases documented. Portfolio reaction to rate changes, stress scenarios against an S&P 500 move, currency exposure, implied volatility reads, position flagging.
  • Missing. Gemini. Integration scheduled for an upcoming release, per the announcement.

Market response

IBKR closed at $90.45 on the session, down 1.97%. Initial selling moderated through the close. The disclosure contained no client-connection count for the MCP rollout since the June 1 Claude integration.

Parameters to verify before deploying

  • API rate limits on the connector endpoint.
  • Session token expiration window.
  • Whether the connected tool caches account state between calls.
  • Slippage introduced by manual re-entry of drafted instructions.
  • Audit trail completeness for compliance review.

Verdict

The integration broadens the tool surface for research and pre-trade drafting. It does not alter the execution stack. Traders expecting autonomous order routing from this update will not find it.
